New England Region

MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

THEME:"Observe, Conserve & Preserve the Beauty All Around You"

It is both an honor and a privilege to have been elected to serve as New England Region Director and I accept this responsibility with sincere pride and gratitude.  My desire and intent is to serve the members of the New England Region well,   following in the well-trod path of my predecessors .  I would like to extend my appreciation to everyone who agreed to serve on the 2011-2013 NER Board of Directors--those who agreed to assume a regional chairmanship--some for the first time,  as well as those who generously agreed to chair a new committee  and/or to remain in their current positions, lending us their accumulated knowledge and experience.

The regional project I have chosen to undertake is “Plan Before You Plant”.  Basically this is a project intended to draw our members’ and the public’s attention to the importance of selecting the “right tree for the right place” in terms of location, type, size , etc. in order to conserve energy, to aid in air quality, the prevention of plant disease, to benefit wildlife, to avoid electrical wire interference, etc. The wrong tree or the incorrect placement of a tree could very well result in its natural demise or the need to prematurely remove a precious tree—all for the lack of pre-planning. We will delve into the details of this project more in the coming months.

The crux of my mission for the next two years is to instill the facets of my Regional Director’s theme of “Observing, Conserving and Preserving the Beauty All Around Us “ in the minds and actions of our members, individual clubs and state organizations  and to encourage them to promote this philosophy within their club and statewide projects and ultimately to the public.

I look forward to visiting all of our New England States during my term as Regional Director, attending their annual meetings, conferences, symposiums and other special events;  I view having the opportunity to meet with so many of our New England members over the next two years as  a wonderful opportunity and  a very special benefit of this position.

As we move through our 2011-2013 term, let us take the time to observe the beauty all around us, to work at conserving this wonder for those who follow and finally, to preserve our collective mission and thus, our future.
